VP of Sales, Ed Wegener, ready to talk targets at the DHF Technical Products booth during ICMCTF 2024.
ICMCTF Returns to Sunny San Diego for its 51st International Conference on Metallurgical Coatings and Thin Films.
Last year, ICMCTF celebrated its 50th anniversary in style and is planning to one-up themselves this year. The 51st International Conference on Metallurgical Coatings and Thin Films (ICMCTF 2025), the premier international conference in the field of thin film deposition, characterization, and advanced surface engineering, will be held at the Town & Country Resort, San Diego, California, USA, from May 11-16, 2025.

ICMCTF will promote a global exchange of ideas and information among scientists, technologists and manufacturers with the theme “Surface Engineering for Sustainable Development.” Technical sessions will emphasize materials, processes, and applications relevant for sustainable development and will include a related Topical Symposium. The Conference includes more than 90 high-profile invited speakers in over 50 sessions across technical symposia, plenary and keynote lectures, short courses, an awards program and daily social networking events.
The Conference typically draws 700 attendees covering some 35 oral technical sessions and a well-attended Thursday evening poster session with scientists from all over the world presenting their findings, exchanging ideas, sharing insights, making new friends and often establishing collaborations.
DHF Technical Products to Exhibit at ICMCTF
In addition to the technical program, the conference features a major exhibiton showcasing the latest equipment, materials, and services used for the deposition, monitoring, and characterization of coatings and thin films. The exhibition, which will be held Tuesday and Wednesday, May 13-14 and will be open to the public. There will also be a Career Center where organizations post jobs and candidates interview for positions throughout the week. An educational program of Short Courses will be offered throughout the week. DHF Technical Products, the leader in designing and manufacturing precious metal sputtering targets, will be there to discuss its custom targets, spent target recycling program and working capital solutions.
A Grand Opening Lecture
The conference will open on Monday morning with Professor Shirley Meng from the University of Chicago, delivering a plenary lecture entitled “Past, Present, and Future of All Solid-State Batteries – Challenges and Opportunities.” Other special highlights of the meeting will be Keynote Lectures highlighting the importance of materials for sustainable industrial applications.
A Rewarding Awards Ceremony and Reception
The R.F. Bunshah and Bill Sproul Award Laureates and three outstanding Graduate Student Award winners are celebrated during a special convocation ceremony. This year it will be held Wednesday afternoon, May 14, followed by an evening reception.
ICMCTF will again publish excellent scientific and technical work after peer-review in the Elsevier journals Surface and Coatings Technology (IF = 5.3) and Vacuum (IF=3.8). Authors are encouraged to submit manuscripts by July 2025.
Let’s Talk Targets
Ed Wegener, DHF Technical Products VP of sales, will be at ICMCTF again this year, prepared to talk targets. We look forward to seeing old friends and making new ones. If your thin film applications require precious metal sputtering, we look forward to speaking with you.
