The Leading International Symposium and Exhibition for Vacuum Coating Technology is Coming to Portland.

The week long AVS 69th International Symposium and Exhibition is expected to attract more than 2,500 attendees from around the world with over 1,250 technical presentations including two poster sessions and 250+ exhibitors.

Everyone who is anyone in vacuum coating will be attending AVS 69 at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland November 5-10, 2023. That includes DHF Technical Products, a leading designer and manufacturer of precious metal sputtering targets for the aerospace, automotive, glass, medical and semiconductor industries.

Ed Wegener, VP of Sales, will be one of the contingent representing DHF. Says Wegener, “AVS puts on an excellent conference. I’m looking forward to seeing old friends, meeting new ones and learning about the latest innovations in the vacuum coating industry.”

AVS 69 will address cutting edge issues associated with materials, processing and interfaces in both the research and manufacturing communities. The symposium fosters a multidisciplinary environment that cuts across traditional boundaries between disciplines, featuring papers from AVS Technical Division, Groups, Focus Topics on emerging technologies and more. The Exhibition will run from November 7-9 and feature equipment, tools, materials, supplies, chemicals, services, consulting, technical literature, new technologies and other related products.

The theme for this year’s Symposium is “Two is Better than One: Breaking Barriers with Coupled Phenomena.”  According to the AVS, the theme is intended to highlight the recent and emerging interest throughout AVS in engineering materials and devices with novel, multifaceted functionality in small or complex form factors. Often times these properties are not naturally occurring within a single material and require novel approaches to develop either new engineered materials or ways to combine different materials into a single structure.

Plenary Speaker Joshua Caldwell, Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Director of Interdisciplinary Materials Science Graduate Program Mechanical Engineering Dept., Vanderbilt University

Throughout the week, several AVS awardees will be honored with invited talks. The national awardees will also be giving talks throughout the week. A special session will be held for the Plasma Science and Technology Division to honor 2022 awardees and AVS Fellows from that division.

In addition to the Technical Program and Exhibition there will be a 5K Run, several special workshops and professional development events, a Member Center, a Career Center, a number of social events as well as networking, career advancement and recruitment events for vacuum coating industry members at all levels.
